Thank you, Mayor Murray and council members, for this opportunity to offer an invocation. On behalf of the residents of the city, I thank you and all city employees for the hard work and effort you bring each and every day.

As we prepare for tonight’s meeting, let us pause and reflect on how far we have come and what we can do for the future. May we be inspired by the incredible citizens who have come together to support each other during this past year.

As Thurgood Marshall once said, "The measure of a country's greatness is its ability to retain compassion in times of crisis."

Because we all forget from time to time, especially in the noisy-ness of modern life, may we remember that we are here to serve the common good of all.

Tonight, the council will make decisions that guide the growth of the city for generations to come. Martin Luther King famously said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?”

With that in mind, let every person here be open to conversation and discussion to make the best decisions.

Let us use reason to evaluate the impact of the choices offered.

And let us use compassion with each other as we listen and share our opinions.
